Most HYROX athletes finish a race, check their time, feel proud or frustrated, and then train the same way they always have. That's a missed opportunity. HYRESULT, the official results platform for every HYROX event, gives you far more than a finish time. It gives you a breakdown of every station, every running leg, and your ranking against everyone else in your division. The problem is that almost no one uses it properly.

Here's how to turn that data into a training plan that actually addresses your weaknesses.

What HYRESULT Actually Shows You

After every sanctioned HYROX race, your results appear in HYRESULT within a few hours of finishing. The platform logs your split time for each of the eight workout stations. SkiErg, sled push, sled pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, farmer's carry, sandbag lunges, and wall balls. It also records each of the eight 1km running legs that connect those stations.

Beyond raw splits, HYRESULT shows your rank within your division (for example, Men 35-39 or Women Open) for each individual segment. That means you're not just seeing how long you spent on the rowing machine. You're seeing how that time compares to the 200 or 2,000 other athletes who competed in the same category at the same event.

Why Finish Time Is the Wrong Number to Focus On

The reality is that most athletes have two or three stations where they're genuinely competitive and two or three where they're giving away significant time. The athlete who finishes in 1:12 and the athlete who finishes in 1:08 often have similar running splits. The gap usually lives in one or two specific stations, not across the board.

This is why split analysis is the fastest path to improvement. You don't need to get marginally better at everything. You need to find the two stations where you're losing the most ground and close those gaps specifically. Four minutes on the sled push and three minutes on the sandbag lunges is a seven-minute PR without changing a single thing about your running fitness.

Step One: Pull Your Full Split Report

Log into HYRESULT and navigate to your most recent race. You'll see a full split table. Export it or screenshot it. You want both your raw times and your divisional ranking for each segment.

Create a simple spreadsheet with three columns: segment name, your time, your divisional rank. Do this for all 16 segments. Now you have a complete picture of where you stand.

Don't skip the running legs. A lot of athletes assume their running is fine because they feel comfortable during the race. But feeling comfortable and running a competitive pace are different things. HYRESULT will tell you which running legs were slower than your division average and by how much.

Step Two: Find the Top 10 in Your Division and Compare

This is where the real insight comes from. Go back to HYRESULT and pull up the full results for your division. Find the top 10 finishers and, if the platform's filtering allows, look at their individual splits for the same segments where you ranked lowest.

You're looking for one specific thing: where is the gap largest, not in absolute seconds, but relative to your best segments? If your SkiErg splits put you in the top 30% of your division but your sled push puts you in the bottom 40%, that's your target. The top 10 athletes are not dramatically better than you everywhere. They're dramatically better in the places you haven't trained specifically.

For a practical benchmark: if you're losing 90 seconds or more to the median top-10 finisher on a single station, that station should be the primary focus of your next training block. Losing 30 seconds on every station is a general fitness problem. Losing 90 seconds on one station is a skill and strength problem. The training response is completely different.

Step Three: Categorize Your Gaps

Once you've identified your weak segments, sort them into two buckets.

  • Strength and mechanics gaps: Sled push, sled pull, farmer's carry, sandbag lunges. If you're losing time here, the issue is usually load-specific strength, technique under fatigue, or both. These respond well to dedicated barbell and loaded carry work in the off-season.
  • Aerobic and pacing gaps: SkiErg, rowing, burpee broad jumps, wall balls, running legs. If your splits here are below your division average, you likely need more threshold work and better pacing strategy, not just more volume.

Knowing which bucket your weaknesses fall into determines what your next training cycle should look like. If three of your four weak segments are in the strength category, spending extra time on zone 2 cardio is not the highest-leverage move. A structured off-season strength block is going to do more for your next result than general conditioning.

Step Four: Build a Station-Specific Training Block

Once you've identified your two or three priority stations, build a four-to-six week block that targets them directly. Here's how that looks in practice for two common problem areas.

Sled Push and Pull: Most athletes undertrain loaded sled work because they don't have consistent access to a sled. If that's you, it's worth finding a gym with the right equipment and programming two dedicated sled sessions per week. Work at or above race weight. HYROX sled loads are fixed by division, so you know exactly what you need to be strong enough to move efficiently.

Wall Balls: Wall ball failure in HYROX is almost always a pacing problem, not a strength problem. Athletes go out too hard and accumulate fatigue that slows their running legs afterward. Practice wall balls under fatigue. Do them after a 1km run, not fresh. Train the specific condition you'll face on race day.

The same principle applies to every station. Train the movement under the conditions you'll actually face. Your HYRESULT splits tell you exactly how much time you need to recover. Use that as your training benchmark.

Step Five: Revisit Your Running Legs With Fresh Eyes

Running legs are where cumulative fatigue shows up. If your first two running splits are strong but splits five through eight fall off significantly, that's a sign your early race effort is too aggressive or your station work is costing you more energy than it should.

Compare your running leg progression to the top 10 in your division. Consistent athletes tend to have relatively even running splits across all eight legs. Athletes who fade typically go out faster than their fitness supports in the first three legs and pay for it in the back half. Research on marathon pacing has consistently shown that even-split or slightly negative-split strategies lead to better outcomes, and men in particular tend to go out too hard and pay for it later. If your running splits show a clear decline across the race, your training fix is not more running mileage. It's better race pacing and improved aerobic efficiency within your station work.

Track Your Progress Across Races
